2019 was another exciting and successful year at Genus
Our Digitisation Studio had an amazing year with a second shift having to be introduced to run from 17.00 – 22.00 every night. We even had to bring in some weekend shifts to cope with demand. Our largest project of the year was the scanning and OCR conversion of over 45 million images on microfiche and 16mm roll film for a bank. This project alone allowed us to increase the number of onsite Wicks and Wilson 7750 Production Microfiche Scanners we have to seven units. For a Multinational Facilities Management company we converted over 10 million images from various older file types to PDF’s. This has allowed us to establish a server-based OCR and Digital Transformation Suite, which allows us to offer mass digital conversion services to all of our clients. We also had a number of other very interesting projects. For Mostyn Hall we scanned a significant number of Seventeenth-Century Manuscript letters, bound into volumes. For the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Wimbledon we did both onsite and offsite scanning of Nineteenth-Century sporting periodicals charting the formative years of both Tennis and Croquet sports. For Roehampton University we scanned the Ann Hutchinson Guest Collection, a leading authority on Dance Notation.
On the Equipment side, we added the prestigious Zeutschel range of book scanners to our range, alongside our existing SMA and Metis Book Scanners. A lot of interest has since been generated into the attainment of the highest standards of ISO/TS 19264-1:2017 Photography — Archiving systems — Image quality analysis by using the Universal Test Target and Zeutschel OS-QM Tool. The brand new Zeutschel OSQ scanner is able to attain these high standards.
A new and industry-leading software product has been added to our range in the form of the Recollect Online Community Engagement and Collection Management software. This is an ideal platform to manage the mixed and dispersed multiple collections of many organisations. It allows the mixed formats of videos, photos, documents and images to be tagged and linked together, especially using community input to generate serendipitous discovery.
We welcomed the addition of a homegrown Service Engineer, in the form of Brady Middleton, who has worked his way up from Scanning Operator to a fully trained Book, Document and Microfilm Scanner Service Engineer.
With all of our exciting developments Microfilm continues to be our number one product with Fujifilm, Diazo and a full range of Microfilm consumables being sold to over 60 countries worldwide. Our sales of Microfilm Consumables was at its’ highest level for 5 years in 2019!
To all of our partners and clients, I thank you for your support and I wish you and your families a Happy and Prosperous 2020.
